Ranger 7 was a Block 3 Ranger carrying six television vidicon cameras with the sole objective of returning high-resolution photographs of the Moon up to impact. It performed excellently, transmitting 4,308 photographs over the final 17 minutes of flight before impacting between Mare Nubium and Oceanus Procellarum in the area subsequently named Mare Cognitum.
